The Royal Train Station

The Royal Couple at Peles Castle, Sinaia

A most symbolic journey was undertaken by members of the Romanian Royal Family on the weekend of November 30-December 1 to celebrate
DECEMBER 1 - Romania National Day.

This day memorializes the unification of Transylvania into '"The Great Romania" in 1918 as well as regions of Basarabia and Bucovina.

With great pride is also evoking the great Romanian kings, Carol I and Ferdinand I, in remembrance of the train routes established 95 years ago by King Ferdinand and Queen Marie, from North Station, Bucharest  built in 1872 and Sinaia Train Station built in 1913 both erected under the reign of King Carol I.

Royal Train route followed Sinaia, Campina, Ploiesti West Station, and North Station Bucharest, where Crown Princess Margareta, Prince Radu, Princess Elena and Prince Nicholas inaugurated the "Royal Train Station" recently restored in its original glory from the time of King Carol I.

I wonder which of the Royal Chefs traveled along to provide meals and comfort so everyone would be eating royally....

Sinaia...The Summer Residence Of The Romanian Royals

One fine morning in early May, while in Bucharest, I felt the need to smell the mountains and the pine trees, dreaming of grilled mushrooms and sweet pork chops, mulled wine and strudels.

Hopped in a taxi to Gara de Nord train station, while enjoying the tapestry of the land through the window, the rhythmic lullaby of the train, two hours and some later checked in at my hotel in Sinaia ready to discover and partake in the treasures waiting to be revisited or discovered for the next few days.

Sinaia is a resort in the Carpathian Mountains, Prahova Valley, green paradise in summer, superb ski in winter at about 3100 ft altitude, named after the Monastery Sinaia founded by Prince Mihail Cantacuzino in 1695.

A brisk walk up the side of the mountain and I am at the gates of Sinaia Monastery. Prayer, candle lighting ritual of the Orthodox faith for the living and the departed, meditation.

Back in the valley there was the promise of good food and wine from the region, May’s sun filtered through the forests.
